October already, and still no photo gallery. Yes, I’m incredibly ashamed, there’s no need to remind me how disappointing it is. I’ve set a strict deadline of Jan 1, 2003. If I don’t make that goal, it will have been 2 entire years since I put pictures online (which is far too long). Lots of progress has been made, I’d say I’m about 40% there already.
What’s taking so long? Tom and I are slowly but surely working on an solution that will hopefully make creating rich online photo galleries much easier. We’ve got some early prototypes, but being a perfectionist, I’m not ready to go live with it until it’s just right.
A few more trips coming up for me. I leave next week for San Diego. I’m off to Vegas in mid-November, followed by Brasil in late November.
I was hanging out with a few UCSD students, and they were talking about the women in San Diego. One of them then told the tired joke: “Nine out of ten women in California are beautiful, and the tenth goes to UCSD.”
I’ve heard the joke a few times already, but usually with Stanford or Berkeley instead of UCSD (another related joke: “What’s the difference between a Stanford girl and garbage? Garbage gets taken out once a week.“).
According to the guys, SDSU is the place to find hot chicks. If you want really hot chicks, you’re supposed to hit up USD and the community colleges. I’m sure the guys there complain that those girls are dumb, and you’ll find the quality girls somewhere else.
Meanwhile, there were more guys named Dave then there were girls where I went to school.
In San Diego right now, one of five regions on earth which have a climate that makes the rest of the world jealous. Great weather, beaches, and women … completely unfair.
In true dork fashion, I’m spending my last few moments in Southern California in a computer lab in the deep dark dungeons of the UCSD library. The weather is terrible in San Diego right now: Low 60s, overcast, and a strange haze which has reduced visibility to a mile or two. Seattle beckons me.
My days here were excellent. I saw Blackalicious, MXPX, and Jurassic 5 at a free concert on Friday (passing for a UCSD student is easier than you might think); Ankur and I drove up to L.A. and visited a few CMU alumni (binge drinkers, every last one of them); I also ate a lot of quality Mexican food (insert gas-related joke here).
